Family reflections on the changing seasons

Welcoming growth, bonding, and gratitude in the month ahead

As the crisp air of September begins to settle, leaves slowly transition into vibrant tapestries of red and gold, and the world seems to breath in renewal. There is something profoundly stirring about the arrival of a new month - a gentle invitation to pause, reflect, and embrace fresh opportunities within our families. The changing seasons are a beautiful reminder that God's creation is always in motion, reflecting His ongoing work in our hearts and homes.

Growth: Stepping forward together

The turn of the season beckons us to consider how we are growing, both individually and as a family. Just as trees shed their leaves to prepare for new life, we are invited to let go of old habits and step boldly into what God has prepared. Reflecting on Philippians 3:13-14, we find encouragement: "...forgetting what lies behind and straining forward to what lies ahead, I press on toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus." As a family, discussing personal and collective goals for the coming weeks can spark meaningful conversations and create a sense of shared purpose. Whether it's reading scripture together, trying a new activity, or supporting one another's dreams, September is an ideal time to nurture growth.

Bonding: Deeping connections

The rhythm of a new month offers natural moments for families to draw closer. Cooler evenings might invite us to gather around the table, enjoy warm meals, and share stories. Ecclesiastes 4:9-10 reminds us, "Two are better than one, because they have a good reward for their toil. For if they fall, one will lift up his fellow." Fall is a wonderful season to start new rituals - family walks beneath golden trees, weekly game nights, or creating a gratitude wall where everyone can add blessings they've noticed. These simple acts foster lasting bonds and remind us that together, we are stronger.

Gratitude: Recognizing God's blessings

As we watch summer's abundance give way to autumn's harvest, our hearts naturally turn toward thankfulness. Psalm 136:1 proclaims, "Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good, for his steadfast love endures forever." Encourage each family member to pause and name one thing they're grateful for each day, perhaps placing those notes in a gratitude jar. Together, reflect on the ways God's faithfulness has carried your family, both in joyous celebrations and gentle quiet moments. By cultivating gratitude, we anchor ourselves in hope and prepare to receive all that the new season brings.

Scriptures for reflection

  • Philippians 3:13-14 (growth and pressing forward)
  • Ecclesiastes 4:9-10 (strength of togetherness)
  • Psalm 136:1 (gratitude and God's enduring love)

A fresh month in a shifting season is more than a change on the calendar - it is a sacred invitation. May your family find encouragement in God's promises, discover new ways to grow and bond, and cultivate gratitude that flourishes all year long.

Kenzie's day at school

Kenzie got off of the bus screaming, "Mom it snowed!" It was so cute. Then when I got into her backpack, I found her daily sheet with this on it... Kenzie had wrote her name (not perfect but she tried) and a note from the teacher above it saying "INDEPENDENT WRITING-- ONLY VERBAL PROMPTS!" I am so excited for her! We are definately getting somewhere. Then under the teacher comments part, I find... "SHE CAME IN TELLING ME IT WAS SNOWING-- SUPER EXCITED!" I too saw this when she got home! Construction Zone Newsletter Week 2 Dear Family, This week Kenzie will learn about solving problems. Using the topic "Build with Me," we will read stories about building things and working together to solve problems. You can help your child learn more by talking with him/her about things she/he is doing at school and the new letters and words that he/she is learning. And WINTER is here!

I look out the window to see.... A BLANKET OF SNOW! It is covering my driveway, walkway, yard.... and we are expecting more this week! I think it is safe to say that winter has finally decided to come! Don't get me wrong, snow is pretty, but I don't like it because that means I have to drive in dangerous conditions! I would much rather be driving in tropical storm force winds and rain (I have done this! When all the hurricanes were going through Florida a couple of years ago!). Now on to other things... Saturday: I had a really busy day. I was at work and didn't think it would ever end. Admissions and falls and sending people to the hospital... stabalizing others and stuff that goes on in the health care centers all the time. Sunday: Zach forgot to add me back into the schedule, so I got off at 2pm. Rode home with Maxx since he lives in Jeffersonville and Ryan and the girls were going to be at his house anyway. When we got there we watched a little of the game an...
