Little moments that made October

October didn’t arrive with a bang this year – it drifted in softly, like a sweater you pull around your shoulders without even realizing you needed it. The whole month felt content, steady, and quietly comforting, the kind of rhythm you don’t notice until you look back and think, yes… that was good.

One of the first little moments was the morning I surprised the girls with chocolate chip pumpkin muffins. The house was still hushed, that early-fall kind of quiet where the air feels cool and the light is soft. I baked while they slept, letting the scent of pumpkin and warm chocolate fill the kitchen. It felt like the official start of fall – the moment the season clicked into place.

We settled deeply into our family watch-party groove this month. NASCAR’s Chase for the Cup had us all leaning forward, reacting in unison, and WWE’s Money in the Bank brought its own brand of chaotic fun. And in the background all of that excitement, we kept close tabs on the Christa Pike case – a reminder that life is always a mix of cozy and serious, soft and sharp.

Creatively, October was a month of beginnings. I started working on our fall wreath, inspired by a sign I saw with an old truck overflowing with pumpkins. It sparked something warm and nostalgic. And then a fall football sign nudged me toward a football wreath too – both projects still in progress, both carrying that satisfying “I’m making something” energy.

The house itself felt different this month – more relaxed, more settled. Maybe it was the cooler air, maybe the shift in routine, maybe just the way fall wraps itself around a home. But there was a softness to October that I didn’t expect.

And then there was the moment Ryan came home and told me the balance on one of our cars. We’re almost done paying it off. It was one of those quiet shocks – the kind that makes you pause, breathe, and feel a little lighter. It’s been a long time coming, and hearing it out loud made the whole month feel brighter.

October wasn’t loud. It wasn’t dramatic, but it was full of little moments – warm, surprising, comforting – that stitched themselves together into something beautiful.
