Small wins are also meaningful

Some seasons of life feel like they're defined by BIG milestones - the move to a new city, launch of a new project, start of a new Dungeons & Dragons campaign arc, the moments that make it into the family scrapbook. But lately, I've been reminded that the Lord often works just as powerfully in the small wins, the quiet victories that don't always get applause but still move us forward.

As we re-settle into Greenville and find our rhythm in our new apartment, I've noticed how much peace comes from celebrating the little things. A simple statement from my pastor "Welcome home" on my first Sunday back at GFC... A successful grocery run without forgetting the one item I actually needed... A moment of laughter around the table. A day when the kids get along just a little easier. A creative spark that turns into a new printable or fresh idea for a D&D session. These may not be "headline" moments - but they matter.

  • They matter because they're evidence of God's steady hand.
  • They matter because they remind me that progress doesn't always have to look dramatic.
  • They matter because they shape the atmosphere of our home.
  • And they matter because they're often the stepping stones toward the larger opportunities He's preparing us for.

A lesson the Lord keeps bringing back to me

I've learned that when I only look for the "big" victories, I miss the quiet ways God is already moving. I am reminded in scripture:

"Do not despise these small beginnings, for the Lord rejoices to see the work begin." - Zechariah 4:10

The Lord rejoices in beginnings - even tiny ones. Even the ones that feel too small to mention. Even the ones that look like baby steps instead of leaps.

And honestly, some days those baby steps are all I have to offer. But He honors them.

Small wins this season

In this chapter of life, my small wins look like:

  • getting one more tote unpacked
  • finding a new local spot the family enjoys
  • a moment of clarity while designing a printable
  • a peaceful morning routine that actually sticks
  • a D&D session where everyone feels seen and included
  • a day when I choose grace over frustration
  • a reminder that I don't have to do everything at once

None of these are flashy. However, each one is meaningful because it reflects growth, intention, and God's presence in the everyday.

Why small wins matter

Many times in our lives, we need to be reminded of the context behind the thing. Small wins are one of those areas for me. I constantly have to remind myself that small wins:

  • build momentum
  • strengthen faith
  • teach patience
  • reminde me that God is in the details
  • shape the story I'm living - one quiet moment at a time.

And when I look back, I realize those "little" victories were never little at all. They were the threads God used to weave something bigger.

A gentle encouragement

If you're in a season where the big victories feel far away, take heart. Celebrate the small ones. Notice them. Name them. Thank God for them. They are meaningful, and they are moving you forward in ways you may not see yet.

The Lord is not only in the mountaintop moments - He's in the everyday faithfulness, the tiny steps, the quiet progress.

And He rejoices in every bit of it.

Kenzie's day at school

Kenzie got off of the bus screaming, "Mom it snowed!" It was so cute. Then when I got into her backpack, I found her daily sheet with this on it... Kenzie had wrote her name (not perfect but she tried) and a note from the teacher above it saying "INDEPENDENT WRITING-- ONLY VERBAL PROMPTS!" I am so excited for her! We are definately getting somewhere. Then under the teacher comments part, I find... "SHE CAME IN TELLING ME IT WAS SNOWING-- SUPER EXCITED!" I too saw this when she got home! Construction Zone Newsletter Week 2 Dear Family, This week Kenzie will learn about solving problems. Using the topic "Build with Me," we will read stories about building things and working together to solve problems. You can help your child learn more by talking with him/her about things she/he is doing at school and the new letters and words that he/she is learning. Here are some ways that you can work with your child at home. Think and Talk: What did y...

And WINTER is here!

I look out the window to see.... A BLANKET OF SNOW! It is covering my driveway, walkway, yard.... and we are expecting more this week! I think it is safe to say that winter has finally decided to come! Don't get me wrong, snow is pretty, but I don't like it because that means I have to drive in dangerous conditions! I would much rather be driving in tropical storm force winds and rain (I have done this! When all the hurricanes were going through Florida a couple of years ago!). Now on to other things... Saturday: I had a really busy day. I was at work and didn't think it would ever end. Admissions and falls and sending people to the hospital... stabalizing others and stuff that goes on in the health care centers all the time. Sunday: Zach forgot to add me back into the schedule, so I got off at 2pm. Rode home with Maxx since he lives in Jeffersonville and Ryan and the girls were going to be at his house anyway. When we got there we watched a little of the game an...
